Adopt a Rottweiler / Mixed (medium coat)

Rottweiler / Mixed (medium coat) Dog

Oaklynn the Dog needs a home

Oaklynn came to Safe Haven with her brother, Boss, when their  caregiver, the mother of the original owners, developed health issues.   Her children, who originally had the puppies, were forced to leave them with her when they could not find an apartment that would accept two dogs this large.    After a little time at the shelter  she  became more receptive of all the folks who interact with her although she had originally appeared to be shy.   She is  still  young and ready/accepting of training.   The  pups previous owner estimated them to be less than a year old.

We have learned that Oaklynn sometimes shows typical Rottweiler characteristics in that she likes to lean-in to humans as she is being petted.   Another charming Rottie characteristic she has shown with her brother is the 'Rottie rumble' --the little low rumble like noise in her throat that can be a bit frightening to individuals who are expecting them to be big meanies.   It is not a growl - they are talking to you.  We can see Rottweiler shape of head, and size in Oaklynn; but we are completely unsure of the other side of the family. (Her brother has the typical Rottweiller markings and looks more like a Rottie than Oaklynn.)  Oaklynn is very willing to try to please people, which is great because she is going to be 'gentle giant' size, especially if she puts on a little more muscle.   Right now the body type does not seem all that Rottweiler, but maybe that is because she is still growing/filling out.

She does better on a harness than a collar for leash work.   She liked learning about raw-hides, treats, toys and other good things that come when she turns on the charm.  She is great with volunteers and all the volunteers especially appreciate that she keeps her kennel clean.   But, we have learned that she can be very assertive with cats.   In fact, she was adopted and went for her home visit where she failed the 'living with cats and another dog' requirement ----which was a shock to us because she had seemed quite submissive with her brother, Boss, and had not been aggressive with cats when we took her into a room to test her.   She still likes to jump when excited and might be a bit much for small children until she has had some training.
